April 16th 2000 Well another C5 birthday bash has come and gone and it was a tremendous success. Although the staff here at DRM was unable to attend due to scheduling conflicts we still had some representation from some of our customers. One customer in particular, Nathan Davis, brought his 1998 C5 coupe with a manual transmission that DRM modified with not only the potent C500 "stoker" but we also added a dual stage SX2 nitrous kit from Nitrous Warehouse. We new it was a strong piece but were proud to hear that it was the center of attraction on the dyno at the Corvette Museum. Below is an excerpt from an e-mail that was sent to the ZR1 Net byJohn & Julie Stewart of Nitrous Warehouse. ...Nathan's' 98 DRM C500 383 tested on the chassis dyno at 415 rwhp and 414ft/lb of torque, with the flatest, broadest hp-torque band I've ever seen. A tip of the hat to DRM for building a simply AWESOME engine! THEN...we tested my new dual-stage, SX2 nozzle Nitrous Express system, with 100hp jets in each stage. With about 100 people watching, the nitrous test started, and unfortunately the dyno could not hold the car down, because of the torque. Soooooo, we proceeded to ratchet the tie-straps even tighter and started another test. The car sounded like a 557ci big block, and the dyno held on valiantly 'til 4950 rpm, and let go again. But, HOLY COW! The NX twin 100's added additional 215rwhp (630rwhp total), and an unbelievable additional 276ft/lb of torque (690ft/lb total). The dyno operator (Mark @ Breathless Perf.) was stunned! Nathan Davis was stunned...all of the other vendors (yes...even NOS) was stunned! The ONLY person NOT stunned was JOHN STEWART...and he was happier than a woodpecker in a sawmill <g> Five minutes later...two giant smiles still emitting from John Stewart (creator) and Nathan Davis (proud Papa!) Later, we set-up Breathless Performance as one of our dealers... Well folks if you figure a 15% drive train loss that would eqaul 741hp and 812 ft/lbs torque at the crank! We build'em to stay together. |
