In spite of the impressive numbers delivered by the DRM suspension and brakes, it was the power plant that seemed to attract the most attention. This re-defined how DRM would approach Corvette engine development from then on. It was decided that any engine offered for street use would be, at minimum, emissions legal in 49 states if not the full 50. Holding themselves to such standards forced a superior product. It meant that engines couldnt impress with just torque and horsepower, they would also have to idle smooth, and have flawless drivability characteristics as well.
To meet these standards, DRM incorporated an extensive R&D program, where advancements would be tested both on an engine or chassis dyno as well as in car drivability before being released to the customer. Adhering to this philosophy has allowed DRM to develop a wide variety of some of the best performing LS-6, LS-1, LT1/LT4 and LT5 engines in the business. In an effort to stay on top, DRM actively searches out advances in technology and ways of incorporating them into their engine program.
