Motorsports 427 engine in a C5 sets a new Car And Driver record previously held by
Porsche's 911 Turbo Tiptronic!!!
The old record for 30mph to 50mph in 2.3 seconds
was annihilated by our super stout DRM 427 at a blazing 1.7 seconds!
What did it you say? Torque. And lots of it way way
down low in the RPM range and all the way to redline. Only a big cubic inch all
American motor can do that!
We start out with the very same block that GM is
currently using for the racing C5R that won at le mans. Its a big bore small block the is
a direct replacement for the LS1 or LS6 engines. The Bore is 4.120 inches compared
to 3.904 for our 382 stroker motor. Stroke is set at 4.00 inches
using JE pistons, extensively reworked
Z06 heads, stainless steel valves and titanium retainers. This setup only adds a few
pounds over the stock C5 so handling wont be affected. What is neat about this block
is that the cylinder sleeves are removable, the main bearing caps are billet steel, the
block is made from a much higher quality Aluminum than the stock C5 blocks and the
cylinder heads are mounted using studs instead of bolts for added strength. All
external components and accessories from a stock C5 fit perfectly so even your local
Corvette mechanic couldn't tell the difference.
